Entering New Zealand for KSS 2026 • 13–15 November 2026, Auckland
Before You Travel
Everyone travelling to New Zealand needs a visa or an entry authority before boarding their flight. For most KSS 2026 delegates that means a Visitor Visa.
Start early. Visitor visa processing can take several months, and times lengthen in the lead-up to the southern summer. We strongly recommend beginning your application at least three months before the symposium — that is, by August 2026.
Visitor Visa
Attending an academic conference, presenting a paper and taking part in short-term business meetings are all permitted activities on a New Zealand Visitor Visa. A few things worth knowing before you start:
- Applications are made online through the Immigration New Zealand website. Fees and processing times are published there and change from time to time.
- Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from New Zealand.
- You will be asked for evidence of your travel plans, funds for your stay and ties to your home country. Immigration New Zealand lists exactly what is required for your nationality.
- The organising committee can provide an invitation letter to support your application — see below.
- Some nationalities also need a transit visa for stopovers en route. Check the requirements for every airport on your itinerary, not just Auckland.
Holders of passports from New Zealand's visa-waiver countries, and Australian permanent residents, need an NZeTA rather than a visa. Australian and New Zealand citizens need neither. The Immigration New Zealand site linked below will confirm which applies to you.
Invitation Letters
The KSS 2026 organising committee is happy to provide a letter of invitation to support your visa application. Please note the following conditions:
- Letters are issued only to delegates who have completed registration and payment, and to authors whose paper has been accepted.
- An invitation letter is a supporting document only. It does not guarantee that a visa will be granted, and it carries no financial obligation on the part of the organisers or Auckland University of Technology.
- The organising committee cannot contact Immigration New Zealand on an applicant's behalf, intervene in a decision, or appeal a refusal.
- Please request your letter as early as possible. Requests made close to the symposium may not leave enough time for a visa to be processed.
